The Lakeview Local School District is located in Northeastern Ohio, in Trumbull County and is serviced by the Trumbull County Educational Service Center. It is a suburban community with a population of about 13,500. The school district encompasses more than twenty-five square miles. The socio-economic stature of the community is higher than the state average at about $35,000. Residential and commercial growth within the School District has been strong in recent years. Total assessed value has increased by thirteen percent in the past five years while student enrollment is down approximately six percent for the same period. K-Mart, Delphi Automotive Corporations and Walmart are the major industries and/or businesses in the district. Business and industry provide about 55% of the local school revenue.
The City of Cortland has a number of historic structures and sites that date back to 1820. These historic sites include; private homes, churches, the Christian Church Cemetery, the Old Mill, and one of the more recently restored historic buildings, the Opera House. The old brass school bell inscribed “Cortland Union School 1876” is prominently displayed in a brick standard in front of Cortland Elementary. The city is also known for the many unique specialty shops that add to the uniqueness of the area.
The Mosquito Reservoir is located in Bazetta Township. The scenic and beautiful Mosquito Lake runs through the center of the district, as does the Mosquito Lake State Park, which adorns the lake. Mosquito Lake provides boating, fishing and water recreation for water enthusiasts from miles around.
Lakeview met 27 of the 30 standards on the 2007-2008 State Report Card and earned the designation of “Excellent with Distinction”. Our district’s composite value added score of “+” indicates that our students made greater than one year of progress since last year while our Performance Index score is 102.2. Lakeview’s attendance rate was 95.4% and our graduation rate was 99.4% for the 2007-2008 school year.
