Taking photographs at school functions
|
Keeping our students safe is Lakeview’s top priority. Consequently, we feel that putting pictures of students or other types of student information or projects on public display without parental permission would be a breach of trust between the school and the community. Therefore, the district has a strict policy for its employees and students against posting student information and/or pictures and projects on our website without written parental permission.
|
Parents,
To avoid making photographs of other students inadvertently available to strangers and for your own legal protection, the school district advises that all pictures taken by parents at any school function, which include children other than their own, be used for private purposes only and not be posted on any internet site or on any other public forum without explicit permission from the other families whose children appear in those pictures.
The Lakeview School District assumes no responsibility for photographs taken by non-authorized individuals or posted on web sites other than the official Lakeview site.
Auditor Award Presented to Lakeview Treasurer
School Treasurer, Milton Williams, received the “Auditor’s Award” for Excellence in Financial Reporting from the state auditor’s office this year. This is the tenth year that Mr. Williams received this award. State Auditor, Betty Mongomery, presented the award to Mr. Williams.
Lakeview’s Special Programing
The Lakeview district makes every effort to identify students with special needs and provides the necessary programming for all children identified as having a handicap. The District also serves gifted students with special programming. Placement for gifted education is provided for 3rd through 10th grade. Cortland Elementary maintains one gifted class at each grade level 3rd - 5th. The Middle School provides a gifted resource room at 6th, 7th, and 8th grades. The High School has gifted instruction for language arts and mathematics at 9th and 10th grades.
Advanced placement classes are also offered for high achieving students at the 11th and 12th grades. This year 11th and 12th grade English and 12th grade calculus were offered. Advanced placement social studies is being considered as an additional offering for next school year.
Advanced Placement Advantage
Students that take the advanced placement class(es) are eligible for the spring advanced placement test in all subjects they have taken. If they pass the test(s) they will be given college level credit for that subject. This could save time and money for students serious about continuing academic work after high school graduation. Students that take advantage of the three classes offered could save at least nine college hours of class work and $4,800 in tuition.
Red Ribbon Week
All four Lakeview Schools take part each year in the state observance of Red Ribbon Week. The goal of this week is to achieve awareness of the need for Safe and Drug Free Schools and Communities. The goal to be drug free is an all year, every year promotion, but during one week in late October/early November all buildings hold special activities.
Each building has a coordinator who plans activities and provides teachers with instructional material aimed at helping students remain drug free. This year the building coordinators are:
Elementary...........Shelley Nicholas
Middle School.....................Michelle Conley
High School........................David Jones
