A few reminders

There will be no supply fees for students at the middle school this year

There will be no supply fees for students at the middle school this year.  I am sure this is great news for everyone.  If you had sent your fee, we send it home with your child tomorrow.

We have had a great beginning to the new school year

We have had a great beginning to the new school year!!!  The halls are full of smiling faces.

Now that bussing has been reestablished, we ask that you permit your child to ride the bus home after school.

The busses load at the high school then come to the middle school.

If you must pick up your child, please pull up to the car in front of you.  We must keep the driveway open for the busses to enter the parking lot.  Do not enter the driveway if your car would prevent the busses from entering.  20 busses must enter the front parking lot.  Please, remain in the street and the busses will pull around the cars.  You will not get out of here any sooner, if anything you will be here longer.  If the busses are blocked, dismissal will be delayed because I cannot allow students in the parking lot until the busses are stopped.

The busses are on an extremely tight schedule and most of the busses must return to the elementary in time for their dismissal.

PTO was able to purchase a climber for our playground.  We need additional equipment and hope to be able to purchase more in the future.  PTO is accepting donations.  Please contact:

The playground equipment is scheduled to be installed this week.  Please call Terri or Tami if you are able to volunteer to help.

Terri Barnovsky (330) 637-2536 or

Tami Smith (330) 637-1312.

We are always looking for ways to improve and if you have suggestions please email me, nancy.krygowski@neomin.org.

Please remember the middle school dress code.  Students are permitted to wear shorts until November 1.  Shorts and skirts must be appropriate for school, not too tight and finger tip length when shoulders are relaxed.  This rule applies even if tights are worn under the shorts or skirt.

Absolutely no leggings worn as slacks or yoga pants.

Shirts must not be too revealing or too tight.  No midriff can be showing.

No shirts with large armhole openings.

Students are not permitted to wear flip flops or shower shoes to school.  Please remember students are going up and down stairs during the day so avoid high heels or strappy shoes that could cause a fall.  All sandals must have a back strap.

If you have doubts that something is appropriate for school, it probably should not be worn.

It is always better to ask.  The dress code is on page 20 of the student handbook.

If a student violates the dress code, the student will call home for a change of clothing and if this is a repeated occurrence, a detention will be issued.

Our district has begun using “One Call Now”.  This is an automated call service. When this service is used, you will hear a beep then the message will begin.  If you have additional phone numbers you would like added for your child, use your PAM account or contact the school office.

PLEASE, PUT ALL LUNCH MONEY IN AN ENEVLOPE WITH CHILD’S NAME, PARENT NAME, HOMEROOM NUMBER, AND THE AMOUNT OF THE PAYMENT.

Please email nkrygowski@neomin.org if you are not receiving emails from the middle school.

A regular school lunch will cost $2.00 and milk is $0.50. Extras are sold each day. Prices for the extras vary. We sell menu items such as sandwiches or fries; in addition we sell some snack items after students go through the lunch line.  The lunchroom does not permit charging.

Our school officially opens at 7:38 each morning. On bad weather days, the students are permitted to enter the building at 7:30. Students are tardy if they do not arrive by 7:45. All students who do not ride the bus must enter the building using the front doors. If a student arrives after 7:45, a parent or guardian must accompany the child into the building and sign our late arrival sheet. We need this procedure to avoid marking a student absent. After school, students do not need to be signed out if they are not riding the bus. If you pick up your child after school, you must pull to the east end of the driveway in the rear of the school and wait for students to be dismissed at 2:38. Walkers and bike riders are held until the buses leave the parking lot. Students must use the sidewalks. Our parking lot is extremely busy after school, please be extremely cautious.

We have various levels of detention in the building. Some teachers assign detention before or after school for thirty minutes. This is generally assigned if a child repeatedly fails to complete assignments. There is also an administrative detention. These are assigned through the office. This detention is held after school on Mondays and Wednesdays for one hour. Parents will be notified and will be able to choose either the next Monday or Wednesday for your child to serve. If the student fails to return the detention form the following day or does not serve the detention, a second detention will be assigned. Students receiving multiple detentions or commit a more serious offense, a Saturday Detention will be assigned. Again, the parent is able to choose a Saturday within two weeks from the day the detention is assigned. For the most serious offenses, a student will be suspended or recommended for expulsion. I always contact parents before this occurs. Please read the handbook for more information.

Please call the school if your child is absent. The Federal Missing Child Act requires that we document why a child is not in school. We have an answering machine so please call at any time. If your child visits the doctor, dentist or orthodontist, please ask for an excuse and present it at school when your child returns. If your child is absent 3 or more days, please request homework. Most teachers put assignments on POW PAC and teachers will supply you with this information in an informational letter that will be sent home the first week of school. All correspondence for the school office will be printed on blue paper.

Please remind your children who walk or ride a bike to school to follow traffic safety rules.  It is dark in the mornings so it is important that students wear reflective clothing.

Menus will not longer be sent home with students.  Please visit http://www.lakeviewlocal.org/images/LV-CF/msmenu.pdf for daily choices.  The menu  is posted in every classroom and is read each morning on announcements.

The Middle School Newsletter will also be posted on this website rather than being sent home.  We will announce to students if they do not have computer access, we will have copies in the office.

The cost for lunch is $2.00 and $0.50 for milk.  Only one lunch selection is offered on Monday, Wednesday and Friday.  On Tuesday and Thursday, students have a choice of hamburger, cheeseburger, hot dog, chicken patty or pbj.  Please refer to the menu posted on the website for details.  Extras are sold after the students purchase lunches.  Students must eat a purchased or packed lunch.  Students will not be permitted to only purchase extras for their lunch.  Parents are encouraged to send lunch money to school to be deposited in the student’s account.  The cashier will notify your child when additional money is needed.  Students are not permitted to charge lunches.  This is a policy of the cafeteria.  All children are permitted to call home if they have forgotten the lunch or the lunch money.  If no one can be contacted, students will be given cereal and milk for lunch.  Forms for free and reduced lunches will be sent home the first week of school.  If your child was eligible last year, this eligibility will continue the first weeks of school, until the new application is processed.  All parents must apply each year.

All students who normally ride the bus home must have a note if they walk or ride their bike.  This includes students who walk to the high school for sports or walk to get something to eat before a sporting event.  If you would like your child to do this for the balance of the year, send one note giving your permission.

Incentives

Sometimes we need a reason to try a little harder. Maybe it is the baseball championship or making it to the next level on your favorite video game. Last year we introduced an incentive activity at the end of each grading period. We want our students to do theirabsolute best and we are hoping this will give them the motivation to try just a little harder. Many factors contribute to a good education and we have found that good classroom behavior and completion of assignments make a big difference. We know not everyone earns all A's but we want our students to give us their best.

At the end of the grading period, we will offer a dance, a movie, or a game room to students who meet the following criteria:

no lower than a C on the report card

no more than 3 missing assignments

no after school detentions

Last year we ended the year with a picnic and special treats. We will find something fun for the end of this year too.

Please ask your child to see school papers and assignments. Check the student planner each night. Check Teacher Web.

Thank you for your help and cooperation.
