The Ohio Revised Code requires each school district to employ a licensed School Treasurer. As a lifelong resident of Trumbull County, I am proud to serve as the School Treasurer of the Lakeview Local School District.

Our Treasurer’s office web page includes several documents that we hope will inform you as well as answer questions you may have about district finances. Below is information about our office as well as legal functions of the School Treasurer’s office.

Our goal as a Treasurer’s office is to strive to meet not only the statutory requirements of the office, but to provide effective consultation to school staff, administration and the board of education and to provide top-notch service to the entire Lakeview School community.

The Treasurer’s office staff is listed below. They are here to help staff, vendors and anyone else needing assistance that pertains to our office.

The Treasurer’s office functions as the financial office of the district. We are responsible for maintaining district budgets as well as providing forecasting and data to help the administration and the Board of Education to make informed decisions. We also work with county and state agencies to file required financial reports (many available on this web page).

While a School Treasurer’s office does not decide how a district spends its resources, we are responsible for making certain that expenses comply with state and federal law as well as district board policy. The Treasurer also must certify funds are available when a purchase is approved by administration. 

On a daily basis the work of the Treasurer’s office is to process payroll for over 100-plus employees, pay the operating expenses of the district, manage all district grant funds, process all health insurance payments, monitor all district budgets, process all applications for state reimbursements, keep a fixed asset inventory, respond to public records requests as well work with all district stakeholders to meet the needs and requirements of the district.

We also work in tandem with central office staff to prepare employment contracts, maintain attendance files and support other HR functions.

I had the honor of being a classroom teacher prior to becoming a School Treasurer. It is something I still miss, particularly when school begins each August. When the board asked for a way to help provide information to the Lakeview School's community,  I was excited as this would give the opportunity as I had as a teacher: to engage and answer questions about topics important to you. As part of these efforts we will be offering six sessions we have titled: School Finance 101: Everything you want to know about school finance...Please Ask. One of the main objectives is to have Question and Answer at each session so that the sometimes complicated topic of school finance can be addressed. The first one was held Monday, August 24th at 5:00 PM. The presentation is archived to the left under School Finance 101 presentations.  I will be repeating that School Finance 101 on Monday, September 21st at 5:00 PM at the Lakeview High School Media Center.  We hope to see you there! There will be five more throughout the school year and the plan is to continue on an annual basis. 

We also will be adding content to this site Mondays during the school year, something we like to call MONEY MONDAYS! Facts about school finance such as how district funds are spent? Where does the district get its revenue? What is the fiscal year? We will kick this off in September.
