Doing something on a "whim" can often change your life. Just ask Lakeview High School senior Emily Bennett. Applying for college at Columbia University was a last second choice, and wouldn't you know it, she's been accepted!
The life-changing news came in mid-December after a rigorous application process. "Excited would be an understatement," Bennett says when asked about how she felt when she got her acceptance email and video. “It is so exciting and rewarding to see all of my hard work pay off.” Emily is the fourth LHS student in three years to be accepted into an Ivy League School, and will be the second Lakeview Bulldog to attend Columbia. Two other graduates currently attend Princeton.
At LHS Emily is currently one of 14 seniors at the top of the 2022 class and participates in cross country, track, National Honor Society, Sr. Beta Club, and is a gifted artist. She plans to continue in the arts at Columbia, studying art or architecture.
Located in New York City, New York, Columbia University touts itself as a world-renowned research university. It is the oldest institution of higher learning in New York and the fifth oldest in the United States. Bestcolleges.com ranks Columbia as the hardest university to get into, giving it a 3.9% acceptance rate.
Emily is the first Lakeview female to earn acceptance into an Ivy League school in the last four years, and she hopes her accomplishment serves as an inspiration for all of our younger Bulldogs! "Find your passion and dedicate time for it,” she says. “There's no shame in living what you love and no shame in following your dream." Congratulations Emily!
