Leader In Me Training

Lakeview Elementary has become a Leader in Me school effective the 2021/2022 school year. The Leader in Me curriculum focuses on the work of Dr. Stephen Covey and focuses on the seven habits of highly effective people. We anticipate these seven habits will help
students academically and socially while in school, but also will translate into their lives long after they leave Lakeview Schools. We want to inspire greatness, one child at a time.

We will focus on one habit per month and students will have one, thirty minute lesson each week in grades Kindergarten-fourth grade. We have a Leader in Me coach who helps support our staff and
administration with the implementation. The goal is for students and staff to have a thorough understanding of the seven habits by the end of this school year.

Through The Leader in Me curriculum, we aspire to build character
and life skills to help each child reach his or her full potential. We will continue to build upon the seven habits during the 2022-2023 school year with students assuming leadership roles based upon
their interests and talents. We all have talents, and our goal at LES is for students to be able to showcase their special talents.  “I am thrilled we were able to receive a grant from the Trumbull County Mental Health Board for the next three years to implement The Leader in Me. Our staff received professional development at the end of last school year and we will begin the teaching phase of the seven habits this school year. I truly believe The Leader In Me will provide our students with skills that will last a lifetime, “ said Mr. Scott Taylor, LES Principal.

7 Habits of Highly Effective People

  1. Be Proactive. (I am in charge of my actions and my attitude.)
  2. Begin with the End in Mind (Plan ahead.)
  3. Put First Things First (I start with the most important task.)
  4. Think Win-Win (Work together for a common agreement.)
  5. Seek First to Understand, Then to be Understood. (Listen to and understand different perspectives.)
  6. Synergize (We can all learn from each other.)
  7. Sharpen the Saw (I take care of myself so I can be my best.)
